Welcome Room Art Exhibit – The Wisdom of Trees
You are invited to enjoy our rotating art exhibit, on view in the Welcome Room of the London Grove Meetinghouse.
Our current exhibition, Faces in Quaker Trees, features photography by Atala Toy, with images found in trees on the grounds of Quaker meetinghouses throughout the Philadelphia region.
The exhibit includes photographs from London Grove, Kennett, Birmingham, Swarthmore and Arch Street Meetinghouses. Together, the images invite visitors to consider the relationship between trees, place and the Quaker tradition of inward listening.
A public reception will be held on Sunday, September 20, from 12–2 p.m., in conjunction with From Trees: Art, Craft and Creativity, a community celebration taking place on the Meetinghouse grounds. The afternoon will include an artist-led tour of the exhibit, handcrafted items made from the wood of London Grove’s historic Penn Oak, nature-related games and activities for children and light refreshments.
Atala is a nationally recognized nature photographer specializing in photographing sentient life forms manifested in trees and rocks. She is the author of four books on the subject, vice president of the Chester County Camera Club and incoming co-clerk of London Grove Monthly Meeting.
The Welcome Room gallery features the creative work of Meeting members and is free and open to the public on Sundays before and after Silent Worship (9:30–10:30 a.m.). Meeting members interested in displaying their work in this space may contact the Meeting Clerk at londongroveclerk@verizon.net.
